Our Genealogy

DEFINITION:  An account of the descent of a person, family, or group from an ancestor or from older forms; 2: regular descent of a person, family, or group of organisms from a progenitor (see PROGENITOR sense 1) or older form: PEDIGREE; 3: the study of family ancestral lines; 4: an account of the origin and historical development of something. – Merriam-Webster

Dictionaries give several definitions of the word “genealogy”. We are happy to simply say that genealogy, also known as family history, is the study and recording of the descent of one or more persons from their ancestors.

The Clan Irwin Genealogy Initiative

Most people who join Clan Irwin Association are looking for some manner of assistance in tracing their personal genealogy. To that end, in April 2023 Clan Irwin Association embarked on a journey we call our Genealogy Initiative. The Genealogy Initiative is an eight-point plan to assist our members along their path of personal research.

  1. Continue to support and promote our existing Genealogy Committee.
  2. Continue to promote Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, IN.
  3. Continue to promote and financially support Clan Irwin Surname Y-DNA Study.
  4. Continue to promote Clan Irvine Autosomal DNA Project.
  5. Promote gathering of Family Trees utilizing WikiTree.
  6. Gather and publish Family Stories from members.
  7. Provide training via Zoom meetings.
  8. Reach out to Irwins, Erwins, Irvines et al who match our members DNA to encourage them to join Clan Irwin Association.

Members are encouraged to participate and share in executing this plan. Through the active participation of our members we will be able to keep this endeavor fresh, and always moving forward.
