Clan Irwin Association has a Genealogy Committee that may be able to provide members engaged in genealogic research with help and advice. In addition, the Holly Leaf Chronicle contains a listing of members who are willing to share information on earliest known ancestor, date of birth and location. Clan Irwin Surname DNA Study
Many of you may be interested in the Clan Irwin surname study, in which a Y chromosome genealogical DNA test (Y-DNA test) is used to explore man's patrilineal or direct father's-line ancestry. Participation may provide an opportunity for a two matched persons to find a common ancestor. The study is independent of the Clan Irwin Association but it is closely aligned with our goal to develop relationships and expand our communal experiences. Irvine Clan Autosomal Study
For those of you who cannot participate in the Irwin Surname DNA study, you may be interested in the Irvine Clan Autosomal Study. Autosomal DNA is a term used in genetic genealogy to describe DNA which is inherited from the autosomal chromosomes. An autosome is any of the numbered chromosomes, as opposed to the sex chromosomes. Humans have 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes (the X chromosome and the Y chromosome). This study is also independent of Clan Irwin.
